October Passengers Figures for Birmingham Airport
Passenger figures for October show that over one million passengers travelled through Birmingham Airport – giving a 0.2% growth rate year on year.
In total 1,076,152 passengers flew through Birmingham – over 2,000 more than the same month in 2016.
Short haul traffic saw the most significant rate of growth with an increase of 1.7% year on year.
William Pearson, Aviation Development Director at Birmingham Airport, said: “It is great to report that we are still experiencing month by month passenger growth. We expect to see a busy winter period with the announcement of increased frequency of flights and seat capacity with Jet2 and an additional A380 aircraft from Emirates. Passengers also have the opportunity for some winter sun with TUI flying to Goa and Phuket. For those after a bit of activity the ski season will be underway soon with extra capacity on popular ski destinations.”
Scheduled traffic accounted for 89 per cent of the total, with charter passengers making up the remaining eleven per cent.
Charter traffic overall grew by 21.1% and saw expansion on services to Malaga (+147.9%), Menorca (+139.2%), Zakinthos (+116.1%) and Palma de Mallorca (+89.1%).
Scheduled traffic saw significant year-on-year growth to Kos (+351.7%), Rhodes (+108.1%), Irakleion (+107.7%), Antalya (+85.9%) and Bucharest (+71.8%).
