November passenger figures give Birmingham Airport a tenth month of record breaking growth this year.

Birmingham Airport has celebrated another month of record breaking passenger figures with November revealing 7.1% growth year-on-year.

Figures show a total of 693,033 passengers travelled through the Midlands gateway last month with long-haul growth being particularly significant up by 21.4% compared to the same month last year.

These latest passenger numbers mean the airport is celebrating ten record breaking months of growth this year.

Paul Kehoe, Chief Executive of Birmingham Airport said:

“November’s figures are extremely encouraging particularly in regard to long haul services which are increasingly in demand.

“We expect December to also be very strong as we welcome passengers over the busy holiday period. If December turns out to be another record-breaking month it will be the eleventh one this year which is fantastic news.

“2015 has been our most successful year to date but we are confident that we will set new passenger growth records in 2016 as we increase our destination choices and frequency of flights. We are also very excited to be introducing new airlines CSA, Qatar, Iberia and Blue Air to Birmingham”.

Scheduled traffic in November accounted for 93% of the total with charter passengers making up the remaining 7%.

One hundred percent growth was achieved on new scheduled routes to New York-JFK, Warsaw and Madrid, as well as significant year-on-year passenger growth to Budapest (+287%), Palma (+218%), Barcelona (+202.5%), Reykjavik (+92.1%), Berlin (+85.2%), Delhi (+85%), Amritsar (+70.9%), Rome (+65.7%) and Milan (+65.3%).

Charter traffic which experienced significant growth were Madeira (+245%), Cancun (+135.4%), Fuerteventura (+113.7%), Gran Canaria (+68.5%), Bridgetown (+20.3%) and Hurghada (+17.6%).
