Birmingham Airport Recognised for its Commitment to Reducing Noise

Birmingham Airport has been recognised for minimising the environmental impact on its communities, following the completion of a recent noise management audit.

The airport has achieved a level 3 rating by awarding body Environmental Noise Accreditation (ENA), identifying Birmingham as ‘community driven’ and focussed on the needs and expectations of its stakeholders.

A level 3 also certifies the airport as having a noise management strategy which is aligned to international noise targets.

As part of the six-month audit process, ENA assessed the airport’s overall airport noise management in terms of leadership, policy and strategy, partnerships, processes, stakeholder satisfaction, performance and social responsibility.

Kirstin Kane, head of sustainability at Birmingham Airport, said: “We are extremely proud to receive this level 3 accreditation, which recognises Birmingham as an airport that is focussed on minimising the environmental impact on its communities.

“This is a great achievement and demonstrates the steps we have taken to become an industry leader in noise management, as well as establishing a roadmap for continuous improvement.”

ENA’s managing director, Vicki Hughes added: “Birmingham Airport is the first airport to undergo this unique accreditation process, demonstrating both their commitment to noise management and the environmental impact on its communities.

“This transparent and independent audit process has been carefully designed to evaluate an airport’s performance against an international framework of standards.”

ENA is an independent accreditation programme that recognises and accredits the efforts and achievements of airports to manage the impact of noise on its communities.

The programme is made up of nine concepts, 75 standards, 260 questions, 12 stakeholder interviews, four independent observations and is solely dedicated to noise management.
