Arriving at Naples International Airport
Naples International Airport is located around 6km north of Naples city centre and has one terminal. The most cost-efficient way to travel to the city centre from the airport is via the Alibus shuttle, a fast-connecting bus line between the airport and the city centre, stopping only at the Central Train Station and Naples Molo Beverello Port. If you’re travelling somewhere further afield than Naples, like Sorrento, there are alternative bus lines.
If you’d like to drive yourself around the Italian countryside, there are a variety of car rental agencies, and a free shuttle will transport you to the rental car lots. Otherwise, you will find a taxi rank in the Arrivals concourse.

What to expect in Naples
On the Bay of Naples in southern Italy with Mount Vesuvius looming broodingly behind, Naples is a true Italian masterpiece. Italy’s third largest city is often overlooked by tourists but if you are interested in history, archaeology and pizza, it’s well worth a trip.
Italian is the official and most widely spoken language in Naples and learning some basic Italian phrases will help you communicate with locals - si (yes), no (no), per favore (please), prego (you’re welcome), mi scusi (excuse me).
Naples enjoys a Mediterranean climate with mild, rainy winters and hot, sunny summers. The daily average temperature ranges from about 9 °C (48 °F) in January and February to about 24 °C (75 °F) in July and August.
Culture in Naples
As the birthplace of pizza, much of your time in Naples should be spent devouring it. Authentic Neapolitan pizza must be made according to strict criteria– such as only using certain varieties of tomato and mozzarella made with buffalo milk – the result is unlike any pizza you’ve tasted before. From pizzas to piazzas, do as the Italians do and socialise with a spritz at Piazza Bellini, admire the magnificent architecture of Palazzo Reale, or simply partake in some people watching at the busy Piazza Dante.
Naples is surrounded by archaeological treasures like the nearby sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum which are well worth a visit. Most artefacts originally uncovered there however, have long since been removed. Many of the frescoes, sculptures and mosaics are now on display in the Museo Archeologico Nazionale, considered one of the best archaeological museums in the world.
Take a tour of the oldest working opera house, Teatro di San Carlo, which opened in 1737. Its frescoed ceiling and regal atmosphere are sure to impress.
