Departing from Birmingham Airport

There are many ways to get to the airport, meaning that whether you prefer private or public transport, travelling to Birmingham Airport is easy. If you want to travel by public transport, you will find bus and coach services running directly to the airport from all over the UK. Trains will take you to Birmingham International train station, from where the free and frequent Air-Rail takes you to the terminal in just two minutes.

Those driving to the airport will find a choice of seven car parks, which are all easily accessible from the terminal by foot or via a free courtesy shuttle bus. Arriving at Menorca Airport

Menorca Airport or Mahon Airport is the only airport of the Balearic Island of Menorca. The airport is located 4.5km south of the island’s capital, Mahon. The island is small and is easy to travel around.

There are no trains or subways on the island, but buses and taxis service the airport, meaning getting to your destination is quick and convenient. If you choose to take the bus, you will find that all the buses run to the bus station in Mahon (or Mao). From here, various services go to different destinations around the island.

Should you prefer a more direct route, you can find the taxi rank located in front of the Arrivals Hall in the terminal main building. Alternatively, you could hire a car giving you the freedom and the opportunity to explore the whole island.

What to expect in Menorca

Warm, wild and wonderful, the sun-bleached shores of Menorca offer peace and tranquillity compared to its neighbours, Mallorca or Ibiza. The most eastern island in the Balearics, its 216km coastline is studded with golden-sand bays that rival any other in the Mediterranean. The island is 60km by 20km but despite its pint-sized dimensions, this little island packs a punch.

Spanish is the main language spoken in Menorca, though residents also speak Catalan. English and German are widely spoken in all tourist hotspots.

Menorca is soaked in sunshine for most of the year and sees very little rainfall thanks to the island’s Mediterranean climate. The summer is the best time to go to Menorca, with warm and dry weather guaranteed, while Autumn is the wettest season.

Culture in Menorca

In addition to the incredible beaches and inviting waters of Menorca, the island has an astonishingly rich history. Boasting an impressive 1,500 megalithic sites, Menorca is a paradise for archaeologists, history buffs and anyone with an interest in ancient civilisations. There are sites all over the island, including villages, burial tombs, and an incredible necropolis all built by the island’s original inhabitants, the bronze-age Talayots.

Fast forward a few centuries and starting with the Romans, numerous foreign forces have invaded the island, including the Moors, Spanish, French and British. Each have left a piece of their culture that can be seen in the island’s towns and cities. Don’t miss visiting Citutadella, the city’s original capital with a particularly elegant old town speckled with stunning Gothic and Neoclassical architecture.

The island has a rich culinary tradition, don’t leave without tasting the Menorcan speciality of Caldereta de Langosta or lobster stewed in a rich stock.
