Destination guide: Perth

Visiting Perth for the first time?

Kings Park is one of the world’s largest and most beautiful inner-city parks with something for everyone to enjoy. Dedicated to conservation, the botanic garden is home to plants from Western Australia and other Mediterranean climates such as South Africa and California. Check out the acacia garden, the peaceful Place of Reflection, and a water garden that recreates a Darling Range creek.

Just north of Perth is Swan Valley, a picturesque landscape of wineries, seven themed walking trails, historic building and more! Get on the water and take a boat cruise from Perth along the Swan River to the Swan Valley.

Popular with families, the Perth Mint offers a glimpse into the history of gold in Western Australia. Hourly guided talks provide a fascinating insight into the discovery of gold in the state and the history of the Perth mint. The tours include a short film and are worth getting onto. You can even find out your weight's worth in gold!

Perth is home to some of the world’s best beaches, so if you love the sun, a blue sea and white sand, head to the beach! Try Scarborough Beach, one of the most popular beaches in the area and currently undergoing a major revitalisation making it a buzzing hub full of activity and entertainment.

If you want to escape Scarborough’s crowds, walk southwards to Brighton Beach. It’s amazing, just like Scarborough, but generally has fewer people.
